Friends of 1010: November Update

Dear 1010 Friends & Family –

As many of you know, last month Caleb McCorkle hosted a special reunion for our 1010 students while he was home on fall break from Clear Creek Bible College. It was something he had been planning for weeks and the result was a fun-filled evening of games, smores, and laughter for students and leaders alike!

Caleb introduced students to a new game (who says 60 degrees is too cold for water balloons?) and reintroduced a beloved classic (we discovered Colleen and Ryan make a frighteningly good mafia team). However, the highlight of the evening was definitely “devo” time.

Using tips he learned from his own small group in Kentucky, Caleb encouraged everyone to go around the room and share one thing that gets in the way of them spending time with Jesus (the #1 thing for both students and leaders? YouTube!) He then led students in a discussion on John 2:13-22 where Jesus “cleansed” the temple (shout-out to Brendan and Madison for acting out the Scripture for us). For most students in attendance, this was their first time hearing the story and they left with a better understand of who Jesus was and what he came here to do.

Since then, we have been blessed to see the Lord’s continued work in students’ lives! Earlier this week, a student reached out to us to share Scripture and how the Bible app is helping them have a better attitude at home and school. Praise God!

Please continue to pray for our 1010 students and leaders. Many of our students have experienced, or are currently experiencing, difficult physical trials (ranging from appendicitis and hernias, to waiting for test results and upcoming knee surgery).

You can also pray for our leaders, too, as they strive to trust God in the season of life He currently has them in – from being a freshman in college to a senior getting ready to graduate, from working multiple jobs to waiting to see what’s next to being self-employed.

Students, keep being “BYOY”!

Your 1010 Leadership Team

Friends of 1010: August Newsletter

Dear 1010 Family & Friends,

I hope the first week(s) of school is going well for you and your family! I still remember how exciting (and nerve-racking) the start of a new school year can be. Students, please know that we are praying for you as you begin this new chapter! It may be a new year, a new building and new challenges – but God is still the same. The same God that brought you through every year up until now is still with you and we can find comfort from His promise in Deuteronomy 31:6 –

“For the LORD your God will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you.”

As we transition into the fall, 1010 Youth Group is going to look and feel different than it has in the past. At this time, we will no longer have our weekly Wednesday night meetings (until further notice). I know this is a big change. One of the key aspects I have enjoyed about 1010 (both as a student and leader) is our weekly meetings together. With all of the changes that have been taking place within the leadership of our church, it has made it very hard for us to continue to provide youth group as usual. At this point in time, I cannot say for certain when youth group will resume or what it will look like when it does. However, I am trusting that God is at work in our church and our community; let us continue to trust and seek after Him together in the weeks ahead.
I hope you will continue to allow us to be involved in your student’s life – whether by supporting them at sporting events, band concerts, fundraisers, etc. or through staying in touch with them via social media. Although we will not be having our “traditional” Wednesday night meetings, we hope to still connect with our current students through small groups and weekend events! We are currently praying about what this will specifically look like, but the important thing for you and your student to know is that we are not going anywhere. We very much want to continue to provide opportunities for students to continue to grow in their relationships with God and with each other.
Please know that you and your student(s) are always welcome to reach out to me!
In Christ,
Mary Kate Browning

Friends of 1010: July Newsletter

Hello 1010 Family & Friends,
I hope this July letter finds you well. As many of you know, our church – New Life Christian Fellowship – has been undergoing some changes these past few weeks. As much as it saddens me to say it, these changes have effected (and will continue to effect) our plans for 1010.
Another change you might not be aware of is a positive one: our very own Caleb McCorkle has the opportunity to attend Clear Creek Bible College in Pineville, KY. Since arriving in Ohio at the beginning of 2016, Caleb has been an invaluable asset to the ministry of 1010 Youth Group. While we are all going to be incredibly sad to say goodbye to him, we know that God’s timing is perfect and that everything happens for a reason. Caleb’s last night of youth group will be NEXT Wednesday (July 26), as he is leaving for Clear Creek on Friday, July 28.
In light of these changes, the 1010 Leadership has decided to conclude our summer series a month earlier than we planned. Our summer “Wrap Up” night will now take place on July 26 instead of August 30. This will be the night in which your students can cash in their memory verse points for prizes. If any student can recite every memory verse from this summer, they will have the opportunity to pie the leader of their choice in the face! Since this is not only our summer wrap-up but also Caleb’s last night, we’re extending youth group until 9PM!**
At this time, 1010 will not be meeting on Wednesday nights during the month of August. However, we would still like to follow through with our original commitment to take any students who are interested to “The Fest” in Cleveland, OH on Sunday, August 6. The Fest is an annual outdoor Christian concert. This year’s line-up includes: Laura Story, Matt Maher, Crowder, and For King & Country. Admission for this event is FREE; however, we ask that students bring $5-$10 for food and additional money for souvenirs. If you are a parent or guardian and would like to help drive/chaperone, please let me know!
Our series for this summer has been “More of Him, Less of Me” in which we’ve encouraged the students to have humility and integrity. Our main verse this summer has been Proverbs 16:9, “We can make our plans, but the LORD determines our steps.” As leaders we made plans for what we thought 1010 would look like this summer, but it is the Lord who is determining our steps. My prayer is that our students will recognize this verse in our actions as we strive to follow God and hear His voice.
In Christ,
Mary Kate Browning

**NEXT Wednesday (July 26) youth group will be from 6-9PM. Students: don’t miss our summer wrap-up, the chance to recite the verses you’ve memorized, & Caleb’s last week!
