Matthew 2:1-11 (NIV)

The Magi Visit the Messiah

After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi[a] from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”

When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him. When he had called together all the people’s chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Messiah was to be born.“In Bethlehem in Judea,” they replied, “for this is what the prophet has written:

“‘But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah,     are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you will come a ruler     who will shepherd my people Israel.’[b]

Then Herod called the Magi secretly and found out from them the exact time the star had appeared. He sent them to Bethlehem and said, “Go and search carefully for the child. As soon as you find him, report to me, so that I too may go and worship him.”

After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen when it rose went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. 10 When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. 11 On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.

So the Pharisees and teachers of the law asked Jesus, “Why don’t your disciples live according to the tradition of the elders instead of eating their food with defiled hands?” He replied, “Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypocrites; as it is written:

    About Project 180:

Project 180 is a Christian discipleship program dedicated to restoring broken lives through Christ, through which men and women with addictions can develop a personal, loving relationship with Jesus. The hope of Project 180 is to aid those trapped by addiction in making a complete life change, a 180 degree life change, by helping them become spiritually, emotionally, mentally, and physically whole. Through Project 180, men and women relearn their value as individuals and prepare for a new beginning in life through training, counseling, participation in service projects, and by doing activities to build skills and a sense of worth. We plan to partner with local employers, GED providers, technical schools and colleges to also offer job training.

    John 14:23 (NIV)

23 Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.

    John 14:16-17 (NIV)

16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be[a] in you.

    1 John 3:23 (NIV)

23 And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us.

    Romans 10:9 (NIV)

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

    1 John 3:13 (NIV)

13 Do not be surprised, my brothers and sisters,[a] if the world hates you.

    John 14:24 (NIV)

24 Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.

    John 16:13-15 (NIV)

13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. 14 He will glorify me because it is from me that he will receive what he will make known to you. 15 All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will receive from me what he will make known to you.”
